Privacy Policy

Effective date: 24 September 2025

This Privacy Policy explains how Drynosaur ("the App") handles your information. Drynosaur is developed by Gareth Harte. If you have questions, contact: [email protected].

Drynosaur is built to be supportive and private by design. By default, your data stays on your device and is not sent to us. Optional iCloud sync is available through your Apple ID. We do not sell your data. We do not show ads.

What Stays On Your Device (Not Sent to Us)

  • Check‑ins and Notes: Your daily entries (e.g., emotional state, craving intensity, whether you stayed alcohol‑free) and any notes you write. These power streaks, eras, fossils, and stats. They are processed locally and not transmitted to our servers.
  • App Preferences: Reminder time, fonts, strict mode, and other toggles.
  • Emergency Contacts (optional): Name, phone number, and "primary" flag that you add. Stored in the app database; you can edit or delete contacts at any time.
  • Profile Photo (optional): If you add one, it is stored locally and used only in the app UI.
  • Local Reminders: Daily notifications are scheduled on your device; no remote push system is used.

We do not collect your health records, government IDs, or payment card numbers. We do not read your personal messages. If you pick someone via the system contacts picker, we store only the fields needed for your emergency contact (name and phone number) within the app's database.

Where Your Data Lives

  • On‑Device (default): Check‑ins, notes, emergency contacts, preferences, and derived stats are stored in the app's local database (Apple SwiftData) on your device.
  • iCloud (optional): If you turn on iCloud sync, your check‑ins and emergency contacts are synced via Apple's CloudKit Private Database tied to your Apple ID. Apple transmits and stores this data; we cannot access your private iCloud database.
  • Notifications: Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your device using Apple's notification APIs. No remote push service is used.

What We Receive (Limited, Pseudonymous)

We only receive a minimal set of data required to operate purchases and privacy‑friendly analytics. None of this includes your check‑in content, notes, emergency contacts, or profile photo.

  • Purchases & Subscriptions: Anonymous/pseudonymous purchase and entitlement status from RevenueCat (e.g., whether your subscription is active). We do not receive your payment card details.
  • Paywall Presentation: Superwall presents paywalls and coordinates with RevenueCat to complete purchases.
  • Privacy‑Friendly Analytics: TelemetryDeck receives pseudonymous, minimal usage events (e.g., screen names or feature usage) so we can understand what helps users. No personal check‑in content is sent.

Third‑Party Services We Use

We use a small set of well‑known providers to operate certain features. These providers receive only the data necessary to perform their services.

  • RevenueCat (Purchases & Subscriptions): Manages in‑app purchases and entitlements. We do not receive your payment card details. Privacy Policy
  • Superwall (Paywall Presentation): Presents paywalls and works with RevenueCat to complete purchases. Privacy Policy
  • TelemetryDeck (Privacy‑Friendly Analytics): Receives pseudonymous, minimal usage events to help us improve the App. Privacy Policy
  • Apple Services: iCloud (CloudKit), App Store, and system frameworks (Notifications, Contacts, Photos). Privacy Policy

How we identify analytics events: The App sets a pseudonymous identifier that does not include your name, email, or check‑in content.

How We Use Your Data

  • Provide Core Features: Save and display your check‑ins, notes, streaks, fossils, timeline, reminders, and emergency contacts.
  • Improve the App: Aggregate, pseudonymous analytics help us understand which features are helpful and where to improve.
  • Manage Purchases: Verify and unlock Drynosaur+ features via RevenueCat/Superwall and the App Store.
  • Safety & Support: If you email support, we'll use your provided contact details and message to assist you.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not share your data with advertisers.

Your Choices & Controls

  • Export/Copy: You can view and copy your notes and check‑ins from within the app UI.
  • Delete Data In‑App: "Restart progress" in Settings deletes check‑ins and game stats.
  • iCloud Sync: You can keep data local only, or enable iCloud to sync across your devices.
  • Notifications: You control whether to allow notifications, and you can disable or change reminder times at any time.
  • Photos & Contacts: Access is requested only when you choose to add a profile photo or pick a contact. You can revoke access in iOS Settings.

Data Retention

  • On‑device data persists until you delete the App or delete data using in‑app controls.
  • iCloud data persists until you disable iCloud for the App and/or delete the data in iCloud.
  • Purchase records and analytics are retained according to each provider's policies.

Security

We use platform‑standard protections. On‑device data is protected by your device's security. iCloud data is handled by Apple's CloudKit with encryption in transit and at rest. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to use modern, minimal, and privacy‑respecting tooling.

Children's Privacy

Drynosaur is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child provided us information, please contact us so we can help delete it.

International Users & Legal Bases (GDPR)

For users in the EEA/UK, our legal bases are: (i) contract/performance (to provide the App's features), (ii) consent (notifications, contacts/photos access, iCloud), and (iii) legitimate interests (pseudonymous analytics to improve the App). You have rights to access, correct, delete, and restrict processing of your personal data. To exercise your rights, email [email protected].

Data Sharing & Transfers

We do not sell your data. We share data only with service providers noted above to operate the App (analytics, purchases, sync) and only as necessary. Some providers may process data outside your country. We ensure any such transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses, where applicable).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect improvements or legal requirements. We'll post the new version in‑app and update the "Effective date." Your continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
